The MCSB is proud to present the annual music scholarship award for a young, talented musician located in the Jackson Metro area.
The purpose of this award is to seek out and encourage potential musical leaders of the future who demonstrate exemplary skills and sensitivity to the art of music.
The goal is to help finance private music lessons, music workshop, summer music camp, or be applied toward the study of music at the secondary level. The amount of the award will be $500.
The application deadline is April 24, 2017.

Auditions will be held by appointment on April 29, 2017, beginning at 10 a.m., at the Ridgeland HS band room (directions here). We will let all applicants know of their appointment in plenty of time.
Winners will be announced to all applicants not later than May 6, 2017, and the award will be presented at the MCSB concert on May 21, 2017. Winners must attend this concert to receive their award.
Contestants will be scored in the following areas:
Tone: characteristic to instrument, beauty, in ranges
Major Scales: knowledge of key signatures, octaves appropriate to your instrument, speed, smoothness
Chromatic Scale: range, speed, smoothness
Prepared Etude: correctness of rhythms and tempos; play the MUSIC, not just the notes. To download your etude, click the appropriate link below:
Percussion (includes drums and mallet/keyboard percussion)
At this time, we only offer this award to instrumentalists who play an instrument appropriate to a wind band. We do not offer this award to vocalists, or to players of strings, piano, organ, harp, or other non-band instruments.
PREPARED SOLO: (Does not have to be self-taught)
